Mommy B.'s Baked Beans

This is my Mom's recipe. Thanks Mommy B. for sharing.

Baked Beans

4 cups water (to soak the beans)
1 package navy beans
1/2 cup molasses
.5 lb salt pork cut 1/2 inch pieces
1/4 chopped onions
2 teaspoons dried mustard
1/4 t salt
1/4 cup brown sugar

I will bring the beans to a boil for an hour, shut off the burner, and then soak overnight.

You can combine all ingredients (adding 2 cups of bean water to the pot), mix in crock pot, and put crock pot on high for about 1/2 hour then low for rest of day. If I am gone the entire day in the house..my crock pot does fine on low.

You may need to add some water, the beans can get a little dried out. Water will bring them right back.

Or do it the traditional way....
Combine 4 cups water and beans in saucepan, cover simmer and tender about 1 hour, drain, reserve liquid. Beans and salt pork in bean pot. Add water to bean liquid to make 2 cups. Combine with everything else. Pour over beans and stir carefully. Cover and bake at 300 degrees 6 to 7 hours. Stir occasionally, adding water if necessary. Remove cover for last hour of baking and do not stir.

How many does this serve? I want to use it for a birthday BBQ this weekend :)

8 servings.

That is the servings with it for a dinner side. If it's a cookout with a lot of other food, it might serve more.

:)

Have a great time.
